From his office overlooking Beijing’s Third Ring Road, Liu Jia gazed down at his company’s signboard on the opposite side of the elevated highway and thought back to the day in 1993 when he opened his first dental clinic in his hometown of Dalian, on China’s northeastern coast. From the time Liu founded Jiamei Dental Medical Management Group (“Jiamei”), he had been convinced thatChina’s rapid economic development was sure to lead to greater demand for quality medical care. Fifteen years later, Jiamei was China’s largest private dental chain with 84 clinics in Beijing and seven other major cities.
