Tata China Management Program (TCMP) 2012


 

Tata Group in China 
Tata Group is one of the most respected business houses in India, with over 100 operating companies in seven business sectors. The total revenue of Tata Group was USD 83.3 billion in FY 2010/11, with 58% of this coming from outside India. Tata Group employs around 425,000 people worldwide. The Tata name has been respected in India for over 140 years. Today Tata Group is making China one of its strategic priorities as it internationalizes its business. In 2011, Tata group achieved sales of USD 6.4 billion and procurement of USD 1.2 billion in China, with about 3,300 employees.

Objective 
Owning to the fast growth of Tata companies in China, the Tata Group is looking at recruiting young management talents from top Chinese business schools. The objective of the Tata China Management Program (TCMP) is to recruit, train and develop a cadre of ‘Managers’ for Tata companies’ long term development in China.

TCMP 2011 Batch 
Tata Group visited Tsinghua University, Peking University, Fudan University, Shanghai Jiaotong University and CEIBS in 2011, and successfully recruited 5 MBAs in 2011. These 5 MBAs are pursuing their 2nd projects at various Tata companies in Shanghai, Michigan, Hong Kong and Singapore and are expected to complete their training and assigned to Jaguar Land Rover China, Tata Steel International, TCS, and Tata Communications in August 2012.

Qualifications 
? Approximately 30 years old at the time of recruitment 
? Proficient in English and Chinese 
? MBA 
? Candidates need to be passionate to build a management career in China 
? Candidates need to be ready for reasonable mobility within and outside China

Training Program: 
TCMP managers will go through the following programs during the first year of employment: 
  Orientation: 
a) A 2-week- long induction through classroom inputs and field visits in India, to introduce TCMP managers to the Tata companies. 
b) To build TCMP managers' perspective on the seven core sectors of the Tata Group, its current and future challenges. 
  Rotation: 
? The training module shall include, three cross functional and cross-business assignments in China, India, UK, US, Singapore, Thailand, etc. 
? There will be structured review and appraisal mechanisms to ensure that TCMP managers perform to their potential.


Assignments: 
After successful completion of the first year, the TCMP managers would be absorbed into Tata companies in China such as Jaguar Land Rover, Tata Steel, Tata Communications, Tata Technologies and other Tata companies.
